Palm Sunday

Meditation:

Imagine the excitement of the crowd!  Here, at last, was the Messiah they had longed for, and dreamed about, and prayed for -- the King of Glory.  They had been waiting for centuries.  Now, at last, in this time, in this place -- here was the moment of triumph!   All the normal sounds of the city are drowned out by the shouting crowd....all of their normal, everyday worries drowned out by the hopes and dreams of a lifetime....

We observe the events of Passion Sunday and realize that we all have hopes and dreams -- a passion for what could be, for what should be; this is the vision of what we have dared to hope for, a possibility we have been led to expect ... the way things might have been, the way things ought to be.  It applies to our private lives, and it applies to our professional lives, our shared lives as members of this community.  But the events of holy week remind us that some of our dreams are misguided, some of our passion misplaced.  Holy Week reminds us to trust in the Father’s plan even if we don’t understand it as it is unfolding.

Reflection:

Spend some time now reflecting on your own life.  Take some time to journal and share answers with another person if possible.

* What are your hopes and dreams?

* What are God’s hopes and dreams for you?

* What might be your destiny – as an individual, as a person in relationship with other persons, as a member of the human community, God’s people?

Prayer:

Offer spontaneous open and honest prayer to God regarding thoughts that came up in your reflection.
